The pool dig calculator multiplies your pool's volume (length × width × depth) by a per-m³ rate that varies with soil type, then applies an access multiplier to estimate the excavation itself, and adds spoil removal as a separate ~$2,000 line. We cross-checked the rates against real Gold Coast pool excavations from the last 24 months.

Why does soil type change the price so much?

Sandy coastal soil digs at 8–15m³/hour. Clay is slower. Rock breaking can be 0.5–2m³/hour. So the same volume of dig can cost 2–3× more in rock than in sand.

Why does access width affect the cost?

Tight access means smaller machines and slower spoil-out (often by mini-loader relay). That can add 25–55% to the price compared to open-access digs of the same volume.
