What drives pool excavation cost
1. Soil type
Sandy coastal soils around Palm Beach, Mermaid Waters and Broadbeach Waters dig fast — usually one to two days. Heavy clay around Mudgeeraba, Tallai and Bonogin is slower. Rocky ground in Worongary, Reedy Creek and the hinterland can double the dig time and require rock breaking on top.
2. Access width
A standard 1.7-tonne machine fits through 900mm side access — most Gold Coast blocks are fine. If your side gate is under 900mm, you're looking at hand-digging or crane-in costs (significant). Open access lets us bring in larger gear and finish faster.
3. Spoil removal
An average pool dig produces 25–40 cubic metres of spoil. That's 4–7 tipper loads to a recycling tip at $30–60 per tonne tip fee plus haulage — usually around $2,000 for a typical pool, quoted as its own line. If you can use the spoil on site (raised garden beds, levelling), you save real money on it.
4. Rock

How to keep pool excavation cost down
- Reuse spoil on site if your block can absorb it (raised gardens, level pads).
- Combine the dig with retaining or landscaping while the machine is on site — much cheaper than mobilising twice.
- Be flexible on dig dates so we can fit you between bigger jobs.
- Use recycled aggregate for backfill instead of virgin quarry product (saves $15–25/m³).
