What drives the cost
1. Cut volume
Site cut pricing usually starts with cubic metres. A typical suburban cut is 25–80m³. A sloping block can hit 200m³+. Volume drives both excavation hours and tipper movements.
2. Spoil destination
If we can reuse spoil on site (raised gardens, lower retaining benches), you save real money. Cart-away to a recycling depot adds tipper hire + tip fees of $30–60 per tonne.
3. Fill required
Cut-and-fill blocks need imported road base or RCA to make up levels. We supply at trade rates — typically $65–95/m³ delivered and laid in compacted lifts.
4. Rock
Hinterland blocks (Tallai, Mudgeeraba, Bonogin, Worongary) often hit basalt. We quote rock as a separate line so you know what you're paying for.
Square-metre rates hide all the variables. Always ask for a fixed quote based on a site visit and the engineer's plan — and confirm spoil destination upfront.

How to keep site cut cost down
- Reuse spoil on site wherever possible — even raised gardens absorb 10–20m³.
- Combine site cut with footings, trenches and pool dig in one mobilisation.
- Use recycled aggregate (RCA) for fill — saves $15–25/m³ vs virgin product.
- Book in dry weather windows — wet clay cuts blow timelines and budgets.
- Have engineer's drawings ready before quoting — fewer assumptions = tighter quote.
