What's involved in a site cut for a new home?

A site cut levels the block to the correct height for the build. We strip the topsoil, excavate to the engineer's levels, form up the house pad and set out the footprint so the slab and foundations sit exactly where they should. On sloping blocks it usually goes hand in hand with retaining walls.

Do you build the pads for sheds and guest houses too?

Yes. On a project like this we cut and compact the house pad, guest house pad and shed pad, plus the associated retaining and earthworks — all set out to the same levels so everything ties together on site.

Can you fabricate structural steel as well as do the earthworks?

We can. John is a boilermaker by trade, so on some builds we fabricate structural steel — like the several beams going into this home — as well as doing the site cut and earthworks. It's a handy combination that keeps the job moving and avoids waiting on outside trades.

Today we were on site marking out the levels, the building footprint, the shed, the guest house and the retaining areas — getting everything set in preparation for construction of what is going to be an absolutely incredible family home.

What Sollid Solutions will be doing

Over the coming months, we'll be undertaking the site cut, foundations, house pad, guest house pad, shed pad, sandstone retaining walls and all the associated earthworks to prepare the site for construction.

John will also be fabricating several structural steel beams that will become part of the home itself — one of the perks of having a boilermaker running the machines. On top of that, we'll be completing all the sandstone retaining across the property.
