Robina is one of our most common service areas — flat ground, sandy loam over clay, predictable digging, and rarely any rock. The dig itself in Robina is usually straightforward. What separates a smooth Robina job from a painful one is tight access excavation planning.
Most Robina blocks are 600-800m² with the house tight against the boundaries — pool, shed and footing excavations almost always have to come through narrow side access. Here's how we handle it.
What fits through your side access
- 900mm gate (most common Robina width): 1.7T tracked excavator (910mm wide), tracked dumper
- 1.2m gate: 3T excavator + small dumper combo
- 1.5m+ gate or open access: 5T excavator, larger dumpers, more efficient work
- Under 900mm: hand barrows, mini machines, or sometimes a crane lift over the house
If your side gate is on the edge of fitting, measure the narrowest point including any meter boxes, downpipes and fence posts that protrude into the gap. We need at least 50mm clearance to safely walk a machine through.
Protecting your property
On a typical Robina job we work between two close neighbours with rendered walls, decorative fencing, established garden beds and concrete paths — none of which can be damaged. Standard protection:
- Plywood tracking sheets over driveways and paths (prevents track marks and protects pavers)
- Hessian/plastic wrap on garden beds and AC units within track reach
- Pre-job photos of fences, walls and existing damage (protects you and us)
- Sweep and clean each end of day — no leftover spoil on the driveway overnight
- Final clean and wash-down of the access route at job completion
Typical Robina pool dig
Average 8m × 4m pool excavation in Robina:
- Day 1 — Site setup, plywood tracking laid, machine walked in, pool marked from plans, topsoil strip
- Day 1-2 — Full excavation to depth with 1.7T machine (or 3T if access permits), spoil to tipper via tracked dumper
- Day 2 — Box out for shell, final clean, site handover
- Most Robina pool digs without complications: 1.5–2 days
Robina excavation cost in 2026
- Standard 8m × 4m pool dig, normal access: $3,500 – $5,500 (excavation only)
- Same pool, tight access (1.7T machine only): $4,500 – $7,000 (excavation only)
- Small footing excavation for shed/granny flat: $1,500 – $3,500
- Driveway prep and base course: $2,500 – $6,000 depending on size
Those pool figures are for the excavation itself — spoil removal (cart-away) adds around $2,000. Pricing in Robina is generally predictable because we know the soil and the access constraints, so you'll usually get a fixed quote rather than a range.
We work with most of the major Gold Coast pool builders on Robina jobs. If your builder hasn't booked excavation yet, get in touch — we can coordinate directly and one less thing for you to chase. Call 0487 193 085.
Common Robina mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Underestimating access — measure carefully, including all obstructions
- Booking a dig without sorting spoil disposal first — where's the spoil going and at what cost?
- Forgetting about overhead obstacles (powerlines, eaves, awnings) — they limit machine swing
- Removing fences without planning replacement — sometimes it's cheaper to remove a fence panel and replace it than to fight 900mm access for two days
We sort all of this at the site visit so there are no surprises on the day — it's all part of how we approach earthmoving on the Gold Coast.
