This one was out at the quarry at Bromelton: a bucket repair on an 80-tonne excavator. A machine that size is a big, expensive thing to have sitting idle — every hour it's down at a quarry is production lost.
Why we repaired it on site
Floating a machine that big off to a workshop isn't practical, and it costs more downtime than the repair itself. So we brought the mobile welding rig out to the quarry, prepped the worn and damaged areas, and repaired the bucket right there on the machine.
We worked after hours to get it done — which is why the photo's lit up at night — so the machine could get straight back into production with minimal downtime.
