Project Scope
1,200m² building pad on a sloping acreage block. Bulk cut, retaining benches and slab-tolerance trim.
The Challenge
Sloping acreage block requiring 1.5m cut on the upslope side and 1.0m fill on the downslope side. Engineer specified ±20mm tolerance for the slab pad.
How We Approached It
- 1Engineer's site plan and survey reviewed before quoting
- 2Topsoil stripped (180mm) and stockpiled for landscape re-use
- 3Bulk cut with 5T excavator and 1.7T trim machine
- 4Cut spoil reused as compacted fill on the downslope side
- 5Final trim to ±20mm with laser level
- 6Plate compacted in lifts, levels confirmed and photographed
Equipment Used
- 5T excavator
- 1.7T trim machine
- Laser level
- Plate compactor
- Vibrating roller
Materials Handled
180m³ topsoil stockpiled, 240m³ cut reused as on-site fill — zero spoil cart-away
Outcome
Pad delivered to engineer's spec, ±20mm tolerance. Slab poured the following week.
Key Takeaways
- Cut-and-fill saved the owner ~$3,500 in tip fees and tipper hire
- Topsoil stockpile saved them buying landscape soil for the gardens
- Slab poured 5 days after handover — on schedule
