Bromelton Quarry — 80-Tonne Excavator Bucket Repair — Site Equipment Repairs Bromelton Scenic Rim

Project Scope

On-site repair to the bucket of an 80-tonne excavator working at the Bromelton quarry — the mobile welding rig brought out to the machine to get it back into production.

The Challenge

An 80-tonne excavator is a big, expensive machine to have sitting idle — every hour it's down at a quarry is production lost. Floating a machine that size off site for a workshop repair isn't practical, so the bucket had to be repaired in place, out at the quarry, and turned around fast.

How We Approached It

  1. 1
Brought the mobile welding rig out to the quarry at Bromelton
  2. 2
Assessed the bucket and prepped the worn and damaged areas for welding
  3. 3
Repaired the bucket in place on the 80-tonne machine
  4. 4
Worked after hours to get the excavator back into production with minimal downtime
Equipment Used
  • Mobile welding rig
  • On-site cutting and welding gear

Outcome

The 80-tonne excavator was repaired on site so it could get back to work at the quarry with minimal downtime — no need to float a machine that size off to a workshop.

Key Takeaways

  • Big plant doesn't have to leave site — a mobile rig can repair a machine in place at the quarry
  • On heavy earthmoving plant the real cost is downtime, so a fast on-site turnaround matters most
  • Working after hours got the excavator back to work with minimal downtime
